Elections Page

Avon Township residents now vote at the Avon Town Hall, 16881 Queens Road, Avon, MN 56310.  This change went into effect on December 8 when the Supervisors passed Resolution 12-08-10

Annual Election:  Avon Township holds an annual election for officers on the second Tuesday of March for one town Supervisor and for either Clerk or Treasurer (alternate years).  Terms of Supervisors are provided in the Township Officials page.   This election is held from 12:00 - 8:00 PM.  Following the election, the Township holds the board of canvass (8:15 PM) to certify the results of the election.  This meeting is then followed by the Annual Meeting (8:30 PM).   To be included on the ballot, potential candidates must file in early January an Affidavit of Candidacy which is available from the Town Clerk.

Absentee Ballots - Absentee ballots for the General and Primary elections are obtained from the County, through the Auditor/Treasurer's Office.  For the March township election, absentee ballots are obtained from the Clerk.  The Clerk's office is also open the Saturday before the March Town election from 10:00 AM - 12:00 noon.

Oath of Office - all elected and appointed Town officials take an Oath of Office.

Election Summary/Results 

Township Election - March 2011
This was an historic election for the Township because it was the first in our new Town Hall.  Many thanks to our election judges (Marcy Heinen, Zoe Graul, Ken Mergen, Jane Merdan and Stephen Saupe, head). There were 1322 pre-registered voters, no new registrants, and a total of 43 voters.  LeRoy Gondringer was re-elected as Supervisor with 37 votes.  There was one write-in vote for Supervisor for Bob Keppers.  Kelly Martini was re-elected as Treasurer with 37 votes.  There were three write-in votes (Ken Mergen - 2 votes, Jean Ruprecht - 1 vote).  Official notification form.

General Election - November 2010
Many thanks to our election judges (Linus Koopmeiners, Marcy Heinen, Zoe Graul,Shirley Cox, Ken Mergen, Idella Moore, LaDonna Reisdorf, Eleanor Kraemer, Jane Merdan, Kelly Martini – Head, and Stephen Saupe - Head). There were 1340 pre-registered voters, 67 new registrants, and a total of 878 voters which yields a turnout of 62.4%. Select results: Bachman-484, Clark-310; Emmer-467, Dayton-270, Horner-129; Fishbach 584, Sharp-273; Ellenbecker-447, Hosch-407; Mergen-546, Schaeffer-245.   The Township also hosted a group from The Kids Voting Project.  In all, 201 children participated in the project in our area with 23 voting in Avon Township.

Primary - August 2010
Of 1342 registered voters in Avon Township, 166 individuals voted in the Primary Election.  The turnout (12.3%) was low, but matched other polling places across the state.  Many thanks to the Election Judges - Kelly Martini,  Stephen Saupe, Ken Mergen, Jane Merdan, Zoe Graul, Marcy Heinen, Eleanor Kraemer, Idella Moore, Shirley Cox, LaDonna Cox, and Linus Koopmeiners - who helped make the process run so smoothly.

Township Election - March
Richard Bresnahan was elected to a three-year term as Supervisor.  Stephen Saupe was elected to a two-year term as Clerk.
